Region VII Head Start Association Conference

Nebraska Head Start Association has “adopted”, adopted a tract at the Region VII Head Start Association Conference in June that is. Nebraska agreed to ask for presenters from across the state to submit a proposal to present on a Family Engagement topic.

UNL will present Getting Ready, Set, Go…Creating an Engaging Parent-Teacher Conference. Getting Ready is an evidence-based family engagement approach that increases school readiness among children ages 5 and younger who participate in home visitation or center-based early childhood programs. Check out their session Wednesday, June 14th from 8:00-9:30.

UNL Extension will present on CHIME. CHIME is an 8-week program that provides education and guidance on how to incorporate mindfulness and reflective practice into your daily routine, teaching, and caregiving. This presentation will highlight promising findings from participating Head Start programs. Participants will learn how they can become involved with CHIME. This session is on Wednesday, June 14th at 10:00.

UNK and Mid-Nebraska Community Action Partnership will be presenting on “Parental and Professional Views of Child Development when Preschoolers Transition to Kindergarten. The “Read for School” project will share an assessment model for examining congruency between professionals and parents when assessing preschoolers who are transitioning to kindergarten. By the end of this session, participants will: (a) become familiar with an assessment approach for preschoolers transitioning to kindergarten, and (b) identify methods for supporting transitions for family and professional collaboration. Wednesday, June 14; from 3:00-4:30pm.

Last but not least, UNK will present on “Parents’ Perceptions of STEM: The Use of STEM Materials in the Home Environment”. This session will share strategies for supporting parents’ confidence and use of STEM materials with their young children at home. You will have to split up your team because Paula is presenting on Wednesday, June 14th at 10:00 as well.
