NeHSA Reorganizational Meeting Highlights

On October 12, 2023, the Nebraska Head Start Association (NeHSA) Advisory and Board conducted its annual in-person reorganizational meeting at ESU 10 in Kearney. Dr. Paula Thompson NeHSA board member and University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) faculty member, organized the meeting held in conjunction with the UNK-Community Early Childhood Conference. UNK provided the meals and Dr. Mark Reid, Dean of the College of Education, spoke to attendees about the importance of the Early Childhood Education workforce, describing UNK’s commitment for preparing high quality Early Childhood educators to meet workforce demands. Alexandra Dillon ESU 10 Early Learning Connections Coordinator welcomed attendees and shared how her role at the ESU identifies and supports professional development needs across all Early Childhood settings, including Head Start/Early Head Start. Alexandra shared her excitement for having NeHSA members at the ESU and her commitment to further partner with the association to meet future needs.

Dr. Walter Gilliam, Buffett Early Childhood Institute Executive Director; spoke to the association about his road to Early Childhood Education, his deep connection to the Head Start program, his vision for early childhood in Nebraska, and his role, the Buffett Institutes role, in facilitating conversations and work for supporting programs and the workforce.
