National Head Start Association’s 50th Annual Conference & Expo.

The National Head Start Association (NHSA ) gathered in Phoenix, Arizona for our 50th Annual National Head Start Conference & Expo. with 4,000 plus Head Start staff in attendance.  We were thrilled to have the newly appointed Director of the Office of Head Start (OHS) Khari Garvin join the assembled Head Start and Early Head Start community during the opening session on Tuesday. Director Garvin comes to OHS after many years leading the Head Start collaboration office in North Carolina as well as a large cross-state Head Start program. Director Garvin gave a passionate speech, addressing his 4 pillars of priority.

  1. Health and safety of the children we serve
  2. Importance of increasing compensation to the Head Start workforce,
  3. Strengthening the collaboration on federal and state levels, and coming together as a community during hardships.
  4. Resources/Money for children, families, and communities in greatest need with the priority of Homelessness.

The whole Head Start Community will be watching closely as his priorities evolve into action.

Throughout the conference, a wide range of topics was covered and we heard from inspiring speakers, including Dr. Johnnie Stallings and Ms. Tabatha Hayes, who demonstrated the positive impact of Head Start across generations.

Our success stories truly are the most important advocacy tool we have. Remember, get your parents engaged and have them tell their story.
