The Leadership Challenge
The Head Start WEST Leadership Challenge Workshop is a virtual, in-depth program designed to strengthen leadership skills across all levels of Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Recognizing the fast-paced and emotionally demanding nature of Head Start work, this workshop equips participants with strategies to achieve extraordinary outcomes while managing overwhelming demands.
Based on The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, the course includes lectures, discussions, small group activities, and individual reflection. Participants receive the 360-degree Leadership Practices Inventory, a hardback copy of The Leadership Challenge (6th edition), a participant workbook, value cards, and related materials.
Each attendee completes the program with a personalized action plan and follow-up coaching to implement their goals. The cohort meets virtually on December 1, 2, 8, and 9, 2025, from 2:00–4:30 PM, with pre-work required to optimize the learning experience. Registration closes November 7, 2025.
The workshop is facilitated by Edward Condon, Executive Director of Head Start WEST and a Certified Master Facilitator of The Leadership Challenge, a Wiley brand. Since 2014, Ed has led sessions for nearly 700 Head Start and Early Head Start participants, earning high praise for his ability to connect leadership principles to the unique challenges and pressures of the Head Start community. His experience and insight provide participants with practical, actionable strategies to strengthen leadership, foster high-performing teams, and achieve meaningful outcomes for children, families, and staff.
